living history encampment near to Oliver Cromwells house

Here we see a 17th century encampment just outside Oliver Cromwell's house next to St. Mary's church. A scene looking very much as it must have done back in Oliver's time.

17th century musicians

At the encampment 17th century musicians entertained on recorders and rauschpfeife. Other instruments used included the bagpipes (as seen below), fiddles and hurdy-gurdy. For information about period and mediaeval music and instruments see Ancestral Instruments at www.ancestral.co.uk
