Cambridgeshire-based performers launch the Isle of Ely Arts Festival
INTERNATIONALLY RENOWNED PERFORMERS OPEN ISLE OF ELY ARTS FESTIVAL WITH AN EMOTIONAL BLEND OF MUSIC, SONG AND POETRY
Haddenham Galleries, Friday 8th June, 7.30pm
International performers Steve Bingham (violin virtuoso) and Jeremy Harmer (singer-songwriter) open the Isle of Ely Arts Festival at 7:30 on Friday June 8th at Haddenham Galleries Craft Centre with their exquisite show of music and poetry, Touchable Dreams. They will also be performing again during the Festival in two very different shows, Folk in the Fens, at The Beeches, Isleham, on Friday 15th June and Shakespeare and Other Folk, at the Haddenham Arts Centre on Friday 29th June at 7.30 pm.
Touchable Dreams is a blend of words and music on the theme of love – sometimes ecstatic, often rueful, occasionally sad, even tragic, and frequently hilarious. Steve and Jeremy have performed the show all over the world, including the UK, Europe, Latin America and elsewhere. Audiences have responded with warmth and emotion to the rapport that the performers create between themselves and with the public.
Sometimes, in Touchable Dreams, words follow the music, echoing its plangent harmonies; at other times music follows the words, transforming their individual power into raw emotion, and sometimes words and music blend together magically to create something very special.
Jeremy also headlines Folk in the Fens, an extravaganza of ‘people’s’ music which takes place at The Beeches, Isleham, on Friday June 15th. The evening includes string music from the Ad Hoc strings with Steve Bingham, traditional Morris tunes from concertina virtuoso David Savage, hearty sea shanties from Capstan Full Strength, and the sheer exuberances of folk band The Boxwood Chessmen. Jeremy will be singing with accompaniment from the Ad Hoc String Ensemble in a sublime mixture of thoughtful songs, guitar and strings.
For his third appearance, Jeremy will offer his solo show Shakespeare and Other Folk in which he tells stories from the bard’s great plays and sings his own folk-inspired settings of the songs that are dotted throughout those plays. Mixing his ‘Shakespeariana’ with other folk music settings, the evening is a fabulous blend of music, fabulous lyrics, humour and pathos.
