Mass in Blue – Will Todd & picnic concert
Would you like to listen to one of the most exciting pieces of choral music written in recent years, and enjoy a picnic whilst being serenaded by one of the county’s finest chamber choirs? Then you should come along to Ely Consort’s summer concert in St Mary’s Church, Burwell on Saturday 1st July!
The concert begins with Will Todd’s Mass in Blue, which has taken the choral world by storm since its first performance. Written for choir, soprano soloist, Elenor Bowers-Jolley, and a jazz quartet of piano, bass, drums and saxophone, Mass in Blue is a dynamic, uplifting, and highly popular jazz setting of the Latin mass featuring driving grooves and blues harmonies. For the second half, the audience are invited to bring a picnic (food & drink, incl.alcohol. – bring your picnic blanket (preferred)/chairs) and enjoy listening to Ely Consort singing outside in the grounds of the church. And do not fear – there is a wet-weather ‘indoor picnic’ plan!
Tickets: £10 (U16s free)
(+10% booking fee)
Available in Burwell at
Post Office, Hurrell’s, Pocock & Shaw, Tina’s and CentrePeace or on the door
Rehearsals have been challenging but we’re certainly enjoying this new style of piece to us and hope you will too. So, do join us that evening and please bring your own picnic to enjoy, hopefully outdoors while we continue with our singing entertainment! For those on Facebook, please like the event page, https://www.facebook.com/events/1860381064283946, say that you are going and share as widely as possible – thank you.
Then a couple of Saturday’s after that, July 15th, we are joining forces with Ely Sinfonia & Ely Choral Society to perform Beethoven’s 9th Symphony. Again, more challenging singing this time in German! However, the combined singing and orchestral forces of Ely should hopefully do the piece justice. Tickets from Ely Cathedral box office.
We look forward to welcoming you to both events before we take our Summer break, returning to sing concerts in the Cathedral on Sat.21st Oct.”Music for the Queen of Heaven” & an evening of Christmas Music, congregational carols and choir items, in aid of Cancer Research on Tues.28th Nov. It’s turning into a busy singing year, which hopefully you can enjoy with us!
